Ladies
Firstly, I wish you all a Healthy and Happy 2021. I never expected that I would be your President in 2021 but I look forward to carrying out my duties. 2020 has been a Year that we could never have imagined. Although missing being on the bowling greens, for me it was not being able to meet up with friends not only in Suffolk but around the Counties. Although Newark had to be cancelled, we do have County Indoor Champions who will, I am sure, be able to compete for a National title at some time. We must look forward and stay positive that 2021 will be a year to remember for all the good things. We will no doubt see changes, depending on when we are able to get back to some normality, but I am sure that SCWBA will be just as competitive as in previous years. Whether playing at Club, County or National level I wish you all the Best for 2021. I take this opportunity to thank all who have been working to get things under way for 2021 at some time in 2021. Our Treasurer, Sue, is moving out of Suffolk - best wishes Sue; you will be missed. Stay Safe, Stay Positive and look forward to making up for a lost year. Congratulations to all ladies who have reached the County Semi Finals. I am looking forward to meeting you all at Yoxford on Saturday. Best wishes to all. Good Bowling ,Good Weather most of all enjoy your day.

Dear Club Secretaries,
In the letter that was sent out in April, we stated that SCWBA Executive Committee would review the situation regarding Covid-19 in late June and make a decision about the possibility of holding the Ellen Matthews Competition this season. Following consultation with Area Secretaries and consideration of the current Government regulations and EBF/EWBF guidance, we have decided that it will not be possible to play this competition this year. We realise that this decision will be disappointing for many of our ladies who look forward to playing and socialising with their fellow bowlers from other Areas of the County. However, as we emphasised previously, safety must be our priority.
We have also made the decision not to hold the County Novices Singles Competition this year. If Clubs have been fortunate enough to attract new bowlers, we hope we will be able to encourage them to enter competitions in future years.
We will update Clubs regarding other Area and County events planned for this season at the end of July.
Notification has been received this week from the EBF/EWBF that the National Indoor Competitions that were to have been played at Newark in April 2020, will now be played in April 2021 (19th .. 25th). This means that there will be no County Indoor Competitions this year. It is hoped that the winners of our 2020 County Indoor Competitions will be able to represent Suffolk in 2021.
We thank you for your understanding and hope that you and your Club Members remain safe and well.
Kind regards,
Linda Nunn
Chairman (on behalf of SCWBA Executive Committee)

Unfortunately, due to the ongoing conditions, the National Indoor Finals at Newark have been postponed until September
Click Here for a recent statement (18th March) issued by the English Bowling Federation regarding Coronavirus. As soon as the implications of this statement for Suffolk`s lady bowlers have been considered by the Executive Committee, further information will be available from the Area Secretaries and on this website.

The Suffolk County Bowls Association Indoor Semi-Finals and Finals were played at Ipswich and District Bowls Club. SCWBA players took part in the Mixed Pairs and 2 Bowl Mixed Rinks competitions. Sadly, this Championships proved to be the last for a long while, but provided players and supporters alike with lasting memories during times ahead when competitive bowls will be very restricted.
Mixed Pairs:
The first semi-final was between Joan Blowers and Martin Rumball (substituting for Alan Blowers) and Carol Pybus and David Sewell. The Hengrave pairing led through the whole match despite some closely-contested heads and eventually came out 22-6 winners against Carol and David.
The second semi-final saw reigning champions, Shirley Plummer and Andrew Pulford, drawn against the less experienced pairing of Sally Smith and Phil Smith. Once the Champions got into their stride the result was not in doubt and match concluded 26-5 in their favour.
The final was played on Sunday between Shirley Plummer and Andrew Pulford and Joan Blowers and Martin Rumball. It was a competitive match, with some close ends, but ultimately the defending Champions Andrew and Shirley prevailed. The final score, 23-7, did not represent the quality of the play.
2 Bowl Mixed Rinks:
The initial semi-final saw Joan Blowers, Alan Blowers and Martin Rumball against Carol Pybus, John Sewell and David Sewell. This turned out to be another one-sided match, won 25-5 by Joan, Alan and Martin. The reporter was unable to provide more detail or pictures because of playing at the same time as this match.
The other semi-final was a much more closely-contested match. Shirley Plummer, Bob Sillett and Andrew Pulford were against Jan Truin, Roger Goodchild and David Goodchild. After the initial ends, Shirley`s block appeared to be moving ahead, but 2 shots gained in a tight head with an umpire measure in end 8 brought Jan`s block back into contention, 9-8 down. They took the next two ends to take them ahead to 9-12 at 10 ends. However, Shirley`s block fought back, assisted by another tight measure, to conclude end 12 at 15-12 ahead. The Woodfield block were unable to score again, with the eventual score 21-12 to Shirley, Bob and Andrew.
The final was played between Joan Blowers, Alan Blowers and Martin Rumball and Shirley Plummer, Bob Sillett and Andrew Pulford. After 12 ends Shirley`s block were comfortably ahead at 7-12 and they had a six-shot margin after 17 ends (9-15). The game then took a dramatic turn when Joan`s block scored a 5 in the 18th end. They followed this with 2 shots scored in end 19 to pull up within one point of the leaders (16-17). With time running out, the final end was to be the 20th, which was as close as the later stages of the match. Joan`s block was holding one shot as skip, Martin changed ends with the hope that an extra end would result, but Andrew kept his nerve and concluded the contest by drawing into the head. The resulting close measure and the Championship went to Shirley, Bob and Andrew, 16-18
