The Men`s County Finals played at Thurlton BC involved lady bowlers in the Mixed Pairs, the Senior Mixed Pairs, the Mixed Rinks and the U 25`s Open Pairs.
In the Mixed Pairs semi-final, Georgie Marwood and Craig Parfitt (Thurlton) had a competitive game against Eliza and Kelvyn Earthroll (Ipswich BC), coming out the winners by 18 shots to 13. In the second semi-final Shirley Plummer and David Brown (Rookery) had a comfortable win 23-8 against Liz De Vere Packford and Ian Parker (Peasenhall & Sibton). The final, played on 25th July, saw a high level of skill, resulting in a win for Georgie and Craig by 20 shots to 11.
The first Senior mixed Pairs semi-final was played between Linda and Michael Nunn (Waldringfield) and Pat Jennings and Peter Stammers (Ixworth). Linda and Michael had a well-contested win 20-15. In the other semi-final Joy Mackie (Sproughton) and Leslie Smith (Bramford) outplayed Pam McCloud and Bernie Earles (Lowestoft Railway), winning 25-5. Linda and Michael Nunn`s form was carried forward to the Sunday final, where they won comfortably by 18-10 against Joy and Les.
In the Mixed Rinks, Shirley Plummer (Rookery), with Paul Bugg and David Brown contributed strongly to the defeat of Ivan Parnell, Eliza Earthroll and Kelvyn Earthroll by 22-8 in their semi-final. In the final against Julie Filby, Shaun Snowdon and Mike Topping (Thurlton), who had won their semi-final 19-10 against Jackie Whitlock, Phil Quilliam and Kevin Culley (Otley), the Rookery triple forged ahead in the final to a win by 21 shots to 9.
The Under 25`s Open Pairs competition included just one lady bowler. In her semi-final, teamed with Craig Coleman, Chloe Coleman (Waldringfield) had an excellent win 18 shots to 6 over Joe Catterwell and Matthew Catterwell (Hengrave). Unfortunately the final, against the winners of the other semi-final, Ryan Hard (Ipswich BC) and Joe Sims (Norbridge), proved a greater challenge and Chloe and Craig lost by 9 shots to 23.

Winners from four Suffolk area finals went forward to contest the Suffolk County Women`s Bowls Association Finals at Yoxford Bowls Club on the weekend of 10th-11th July. The majority matches on semi-final day, Saturday 10th, were played in rain, but the bowlers did not let the conditions dampen their spirits and a high level of skill entertained the appreciative band of supporters.
Dominant performances by Georgie Marwood (Thurlton) against Ann Lilley (Ixworth) and Chloe Coleman (Waldringfield) against Debbie Allum (California) in the 2 bowl singles and Gillian Lamprey (Lowestoft Railway) versus Jackie Whitlock (Otley) and Angela Mondon (Old Newton) against Maria Brooks (California) in the 4 bowl singles saw them to progress comfortably to their respective finals. The Senior Singles semi-finals set up a final between Margie Robinson (Yoxford), who won against Pauline Black (Hadleigh) and Gillian Lamprey who defeated Christine Aldous (Thorndon). In the Champion of Champions, Liz Radford (Brandon) had an accomplished win over Jean Batley (Kessingland), but the other semi-final was a close match in which Christine Woollard (Hadleigh) eventually overcame Linda Nunn (Waldringfield). The Secretaries Singles semi-finals saw well-contested matches in which Sue Hender (Norbridge) won against Shirley Upton (Lowestoft Railway) and Margie Robinson (Yoxford) had a win against Gillian Saunders (Risbygate). The Under 25`s Singles required only one semi-final, in which Chloe Webb (Rookery) defeated Kylie Smith (Waldringfield).
The Pairs and Senior Pairs saw the Thorndon pairing of Margaret Thorpe and Christine Aldous involved in the semi-finals of both events. In the Pairs they had a 2-shot win over Sonia Collard and Donna Mills (Stone Lodge), with the other semi-final resulting a one-shot win for Marlene McGee and Diana Painter (Lowestoft Railway) over Valerie Holt and Mary Gillam (Melton). In the Senior Pairs the Thorndon ladies lost by three shots to Viv Sheppard and Maggie Page (Woodbridge). The second semi-final in this competition was a tight game won by one shot by Diana Miller and Christine Woollard (Hadleigh) against Nora Rutherford and Barbara Taylor (Kessingland).
The 2 Bowl Rinks saw a close semi-final in which Jenny Roncetti, Pat Jennings and Ann Lilley (Ixworth) defeated Lorraine Huggins, Sue Hender and Julie Curl (Norbridge) by just one shot, while the other semi-final resulted in a confident win for Jean Batley Nora Rutherford and Barbara Taylor (Kessingland) against substitute Adrianne Earye, Beryl Gilder and Shirley Page from Framlingham Castle.
The sun came out on Sunday 11th July for the semi-final winners to play their finals. In the 2 Bowl Singles, Chloe Coleman (Waldringfield) played consistently with accuracy to win against Georgie Marwood (Thurlton) by 21 shots to 11. In-form Gillian Lamprey (Lowestoft Railway), who won through to three finals, overcame Angela Mondon (Old Newton) with a 21-9 win in the 4 Bowl Singles. Gillian also competed in the Senior Singles against Margie Robinson (Yoxford), coming away at the end of a hard-fought match with a win by 21 shots to 18. In the Champion of Champions final Liz Radford (Brandon) lost out to the experience of Christine Woollard (Hadleigh), by 10 shots to 21. The Secretaries Singles final was contended by Sue Hender (Norbridge) against Margie Robinson (Yoxford). Margie played steadily to win on her home green, 21-8. In the Under 25`s Singles both players had difficulty finding the green, but Beth Topping (Thurlton) achieved a 21-8 win against Chloe Webb (Rookery).
The Pairs Final was played confidently by Marlene McGee and Diana Painter (Lowestoft Railway), resulting in a 22 shots to 12 win over Margaret Thorpe and Christine Aldous (Thorndon). Christine Woollard and Diane Miller (Hadleigh) gained a Championship win in the Senior Pairs with a well-played match against Viv Sheppard and Maggie Page (Woodbridge), finishing 25-12 ahead.
In the 2 Bowl Rinks Jenny Ronchetti, Pat Jennings and Ann Lilley (Ixworth) met strong opponents Jean Batley, Nora Rutherford and Barbara Taylor (Kessingland). The match was level 12-12 with three ends left to play, but, helped by a three in the 19th end, the Ixworth ladies forged ahead to finish 18-12 winners.
The 3 bowl Rinks championship proved to be a nail-biting finale to the weekend`s bowls. Shirley Plummer, Chloe Webb and Jill Lambert from Rookery were against Gillian Lamprey, Pauline Anderson and Glenis Harvey from Lowestoft Railway. An early lead taken by the Rookery ladies was gradually eroded and the later stages of the match were characterised by very skilful play on both sides, with the game level at the 18th end. In the resulting extra end the Rookery team kept their nerve and achieved three-shots to win 18-15.
Outstanding play by two competitors in the 2021 SCWBA finals, resulted in winning two Suffolk Championships each. Gillian Lamprey of Lowestoft Railway won the 4 Bowl Singles and Senior Singles and was also a losing finalist in the 3 Bowl Rinks. Christine Woollard of Hadleigh won both the Champion of Champions and Senior Pairs Championships.
Other notable performances were achieved on Finals Day by Margie Robinson of Yoxford, winner of the Secretaries Singles and losing finalist in the Senior Singles and by Chloe Webb, member of the winning 3 Bowl Rinks team from Rookery, also runner up in the Under 25`s competition.
The Victrix Ludorum was achieved by Area A. The County Champions from the SCWBA Finals will represent Suffolk in the National Bowls Finals in Skegness in late August.

After careful deliberation SCWBA Executive Committee has decided that the Area Team Championship for the Ellen Matthews Trophy will not take place this season. We know that ladies who normally play in these matches will be disappointed with this decision, but we have had to take many factors into consideration, not least the Government`s recent decision to delay the lifting of all Covid-19 restrictions until mid-July. We thank all of you who have put your names forward for your Area Teams and we hope that you will do so again in the future. The Executive Committee is committed to running this competition again in 2022.

Ladies
Firstly, I wish you all a Healthy and Happy 2021. I never expected that I would be your President in 2021 but I look forward to carrying out my duties. 2020 has been a Year that we could never have imagined. Although missing being on the bowling greens, for me it was not being able to meet up with friends not only in Suffolk but around the Counties. Although Newark had to be cancelled, we do have County Indoor Champions who will, I am sure, be able to compete for a National title at some time. We must look forward and stay positive that 2021 will be a year to remember for all the good things. We will no doubt see changes, depending on when we are able to get back to some normality, but I am sure that SCWBA will be just as competitive as in previous years. Whether playing at Club, County or National level I wish you all the Best for 2021. I take this opportunity to thank all who have been working to get things under way for 2021 at some time in 2021. Our Treasurer, Sue, is moving out of Suffolk - best wishes Sue; you will be missed. Stay Safe, Stay Positive and look forward to making up for a lost year. Congratulations to all ladies who have reached the County Semi Finals. I am looking forward to meeting you all at Yoxford on Saturday. Best wishes to all.
